It’s actually my first time to work with gouache and I instantly fell in love with it for this particular “style”. The original direction I was going for was a more serious style of illustration - more detailed and more painterly - but since it was noted to draw them vaguely ‘cause the featured couples requested anonymity (I kept on drawing them looking very much like how they look irl, I somehow know the couples featured personally, so yeah, it’s kind of a subconscious thing to draw them to their likeness), plus, the time constraint and me being sick while I was doing this made me change the original plan. Anyways, I really like how it turned out though, and the tone of the article(s) kind of meshed well with the style of the illustration.
Also, I portrayed the characters as ordinary couples, doing ordinary sweet things together because I can and I want to. (haha jk, because it’s sweet and I dont want to be too cheesy AND because its the the point of the article i guess? )
Illustrated a 5-spread fantasy themed #fashion #editorial, titled “Shape Shifters” for Garage Magazine’s art and design issue this November. @garagemagazine. Do grab a copy! It looks way better in print ;) #art #illustration
